General information and credits:

- These mocks are done for studying the galaxy clustering of CMASS and LOWZ galaxy sample of BOSS survey.
- Full explanation of these mocks can be found in the papers: Manera et al. 2013 and Manera et al. 2015. Please cite these papers in your work.

Info summary:

- These 600 galaxy mock catalogues for CMASS and 1,000 mock galaxy catalogues for LOWZ have been done with the purpose of computing covariance matrices for large scale structure clustering, as well as testing systematics and anlysis methods.
- They have been constructed by placing dark matter halos in a 2LPT field and populating them with galaxies.
- Resshift space distortions are included.
- Survey geometry and mask is implemented
- Mocks are done from boxes at a fix redshift of z=0.55 for CMASS and z=0.32 for LOWZ.
- Cosmology is compatible with WMAP5/7: Om=0.274 OL=0.726 s8=0.8, ns=0.95, h=0.7, Ob·h2 = 0.0224 - The HOD fits to the CMASS galaxy clustering was done from 5-10 DR9 non-masked realizations and using xi(r) in the 30-80Mpc/h range and the 5 parameter functional form as in Zheng, Coil, Zehavi 2007.
- Fits for CMASS were done using the covariance matrix from previous DR9 version of the mocks and latest catalog DR9 data. DR11 mocks use the same HOD than DR9. DR11 mocks have better intra-halo velocities, which were sub-estimated in DR9.
- The LOWZ HOD fits were done allowing for changes in redshift as explained in Manera et al. 2015.
- The DR11 n(z) both for CMASS and LOWZ used is a spline to the DR11 observed number density as explained in Manera et al 2014.
- In CMASS about 25% of the galaxies are now drawn from matter particles since they would belong to halos that are below the minimum halo mass. For LOWZ this is about 7%.
- Completeness and weight in the mocks were computed given sector by sector. See Anderson 2013 for details.
- Mocks are constructed separetely for the Northern Galactic Cap (NGC) and for the Southern Galactic Cap (SGC). This is because due to calibration they have different n(z).
- For CMASS DR11 three is a very large overlap on the underlying matter used to construct the NGC and the SCG mock catalogue that has the same mock ir-number. This means that for CMASS DR11 (as opposed to DR9) using simultaneously the NGC and SGC mock catalogue with the same ir-number can be tricky. In most cases of join analysis may be advisable to use alternate numbers before combining (see ex Percival 2014). LOWZ DR11 mocks for the north and south come from different unederlying matter, and thus don't have this problem.
- Randoms: randoms are generated shuffled redshifts that pass the mock catalogue selection ("wboss,wcp,wred>0 and veto=1, and weighted weight=wcp+wred-1, zero otherwise). They are assigned random ra dec, then applying c_boss (target completeness) and veto masks. This way the randoms take into account the weights of close pairs and redshift failures effect into the n(z). When using randoms, concatenate an integer number of files into one file, in a way that you reach your desired number density of randoms. Note, random files are meant to be used in full (or randomly subsampled) as opposed to % of a file. By construction random files, before concatenation have less randoms than the data files.
- DR10 mocks are done in the same way as the DR11 mocks.

Format of the mocks:

- Mocks are numberered from NNNN = 4001 to 4600 (CMASS) and 4001-4500,8001-8500 for LOWZ. - Each mock number has files for NGC/SCG and for galaxies and randoms
- typical filename looks like: cmass_dr11_north_ir4001.v11.1.release.txt or cmass_dr11_north_randoms_ir4001.v11.1.release.txt
- content : ra dec red weight_cboss weight_cp weight_red veto [redtrue flag]
- ra: right assencion /deg
- dec: declination /deg
- red: observed redshift, i.e, including peculiar velocity
- weight_cboss : galaxies/randoms reduced by completeness C_boss weight: 1-in-the-sample 0:excluded
- weight_cp : close pairs weight
- weight_red : redshift failures weight
- veto : veto mask 1-in the sample 0: vetoed region
- redtrue : true redshift without peculiar velocites
- flag : 1-central galaxy 2-satellite 3-galaxy from matter/unresolved halo
- Files with randoms do not have redstrue and flag columns and weight_cp and weight_red columns are equal to one.

If you know what you are doing (i.e, you have advanced knowlege of BOSS data weights and mocks) you may use other weights combinations, but by default use the one recommended above.

- These mocks are done to mimic BOSS DR9 CMASS galaxy sample of BOSS survey.

Quick summary info:

- Completeness in the mocks is given sector by sector as: completeness = ( ngal + nstar +nzfail ) / (ngal + nstar + nffali + nzfail +ncp) x ngal/(ngal+nzfail) - n(z) of the mocks and is implemented separately north and south, for details see the paper.
